Breathing Space

Welcome to the Breathing Space

What is Pranayama ? Pranayama is the ability to expand, control and regulate the breath.  We use pranayama to help clear physical and emotional obstacles in our body not only assisting us to breath freely, but to allow the free flow of prana (life force energy) throughout the body.

The Importance of the Breath

The breath is a sure-fire way to know that we are alive in this world ! It’s both the first thing and last thing we do in our lives.

Daily stressors, tensions and physical habits tend to lead to physical and energetic obstacles within our bodies. Without being consciously aware, our breathing can become gradually more shallow or stilted, and we can develop unhealthy and unconscious breathing patterns which restrict the flow of breath and prana.

When we work on freeing the breath through pranayama we are also working on clearing the channels for the natural flow of life force energy (prana).  It has the effect of energising, relaxing and healing the body.

Benefits of Pranayama

With a regular and sustained practice of pranayama you can supercharge your whole body! You can tap into a store of energy you never thought existed and that which will penetrate through your entire being. Couldn’t we all use a bit more of that ? Imagine how different your life could be with a constant flow of vitality…

On a physical level, by practicing pranayama we can utilise and strengthen the whole range of our respiratory organs. We explore the lower, middle and upper parts of the breath and regulate the inhalation, retention and exhalation of the breath.

A regular pranayama practice can help dial up the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest), countering the over stimulation our bodies go through during times of stress and when our sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) response is triggered.

Our breathing patterns are also very closely linked to our emotional states. If you become aware of your breath you will notice that you breathe differently when you are angry, you breathe differently when you are relaxed and you breathe differently when you are excited.  By practicing pranayama we learn to become more aware of the breath which can help us to alter our emotional states.

These are only a few of the benefits … there are many more!

PRANAYAMA WORKSHOP

Join me for a 3 x hour workshop to learn a range of ancient pranayama techniques (breathing) that will help you stay grounded, stress less, improve mental performance, enhance healing and increase vital energy.

In the yoga tradition, the breath is said to carry a person’s life force and when we learn how to control our breath we nurture a high level of bodily health and mental clarity. Simply by ‘learning’ how to breathe is one of the quickest ways to counteract the ‘fight and flight’ response that is triggered during times of stress.

During this workshop, you will learn a number of beneficial pranayama practices that will set you up with your very own ‘breathing toolbox’.

In-house corporate workshops can also be tailored to meet the needs of employees.
